Master Guitar Summit: Rick Derringer & GE Smith

Two of rock music’s greatest guitarists
scheduled to join together on March 31, 2017
a master guitar summit on the East End of Long Island.

Rick Derringer, known for hits Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo and Hang on Sloopy, as well as his work with rock legends Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter will join with Long Island’s own GE Smith, known for his work with Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Hall & Oates, as well as his long run as bandleader for Saturday Night Live  – for an unparalleled demonstration of rock guitar prowess!

Rick Derringer came to prominence in the 1960s as a member of the McCoys with hits such as Hang on Sloopy, Fever, and Come on Let’s Go, but soon gained even greater notoriety for his collaborations with the Winter brothers- Johnny & Edgar Winter. With the band, Johnny Winter And…, Derringer’s guitar playing skills rivaled and sometimes excelled those of Johnny Winter – known widely as one of the greatest bluesmen of all time.  And then on the album They Only Come Out at Night, with Edgar Winter, Derringer proved both his performing and producing skills, scoring multi-platinum and enduring classic rock hits Free Ride and Frankenstein.  Perhaps Derringer’s greatest known work is Rock & Roll Hochie Koo – an anthem of rock radio to this day.

Derringer will be joined by former SNL band leader and guitarist for Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Hall & Oates, and many others – GE Smith.  Leading the SNL band for 10 years (1985 – 1995) – GE Smith has been able to perform with a veritable Who’s Who of contemporary music:  Eddie Van Halen, Keith Richards, Rickie Lee Jones, Al Green, Bryan Ferry, Buddy Guy, et al.  But beyond his most recognizable work as the guitarist leading the SNL Band, Smith also has acted as music director for the Grammy Awards, Live Aid, the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary concert, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concerts, and more.
