Mamalee Rose and Friends, a popular East End band for over 20 years that blends gospel and blues instrumentals with soulful and powerful vocals, performs on the terrace of the Parrish Art Museum on Friday, July 7, 6pm. The band, headed by Lee (“Mamalee Rose”) Lawler plays original songs, R&B, soul, rock, and standards.

“I am excited to listen and dance to Mamalee’s tunes to ring in the summer on the Parrish terrace,” said Corinne Erni, Curator of Special Projects.

Mamalee Rose and Friends is a six-member band featuring two female lead vocalists—the mother/daughter duo Mamalee and A.Rose Lawler—and instrumentalists/back-up singers Jimmy Lawler on drums, Peter (Bosco) Michne on guitar, Josh Brussell on bass, and Fred Gilde on keyboard; in addition to originals, the group covers songs by Tracy Chapman, the Marshall Tucker Band, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, and others.

The concert is part of the Museums Music on the Terrace series, for which guests are invited to bring chairs or blankets for the lawn, or sit at table on the terrace to enjoy music al fresco. The Golden Pear Café is open for light fare, beverages, and specialty cocktails; and the Museum galleries are open to the public. Currently on view is the new installation of the Permanent Collection, and the critically acclaimed exhibition John Graham: Maverick Modernist.

Inspired by the natural setting and artistic life of Long Island’s East End, the Parrish Art Museum illuminates the creative process and how art and artists transform our experiences and understanding of the world and how we live in it. The Museum fosters connections among individuals, art, and artists through care and interpretation of the collection, presentation of exhibitions, publications, educational initiatives, programs, and artists-in residence.  The Parrish is a center for cultural engagement, an inspiration and destination for the region, the nation, and the world.
