Children will get a chance to learn some vital skills that not only colonial whalers needed to know, but everyone! They will learn the basics of sewing and a few different types of sailing knots that would have been useful at the homestead, or on a whale ship hundreds of miles from home. Those who come will also get a tour of the property to see what life was like for people living in Southampton long ago.

Antiques, furniture, jewelry, vintage clothing, glass, ceramics, artwork, collectables and more will be sold inside the Red Barn and on the grounds (free admission). Vendors needed, for more info call (631) 283-2494.  The Rogers Mansion will be open 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM ($4, free for members & children.

SOUTHAMPTON ANTIQUE AUTO SHOW

 
SATURDAY, AUGUST 12th: 10 AM – 3 PM 
Grounds of the Rogers Mansion, 17 Meeting House Lane

A variety of beautifully restored autos from the teens through the seventies will be on display by some of Long Island’s premier car collectors. The one acre grounds of the Rogers Mansion, a property of the Southampton Historical Museum, are transformed when more than 30 antique and classic automobiles go on display. The Southampton Fire Department’s antique firetruck will also be shown. These perfectly preserved examples represent the pride and determination of auto collectors and are shared with all enthusiasts who share an interest in our rich automobile heritage

THE LANDMARKS OF NEW YORK

Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, a leader in the fields of art, architecture, historic preservation and public policy will speak about her book, The Landmarks of New York, considered the definitive resource on the architectural history of New York City. The first director of Cultural Affairs in New York City and the city’s longest serving Landmarks Preservation Commissioner, she has held many other prestigious positions, written 23 books as well as countless articles, and been the recipient of many honors and awards. Her book offers an overview of the city’s architectural history, documenting and illustrating the 1,352 individual landmarks and 135 historic districts that have been accorded landmark status by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. She will sign copies of her book at a reception following her talk.

Tammy Nuzzo-Morgan, was awarded The Long Island Poet of the Year Award by the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association in 2017. She was also the Suffolk County Poet Laureate in 2009-2011, founder and president of Long Island Poetry Place and Poet in Residence at the Southampton Historical Museum. Ms. Nuzzo-Morgan lives in North Sea and is a professor of humanities at Briarcliffe College. Please join us for an evening of poetry in the lush gardens at Southampton’s oldest home – The Thomas Halsey Homestead, established c. 1680. Enjoy wine and light refreshments following the readings. .
