A message from Jane Lynch

As I look back over the last year it sure has been a bumpy ride. Politics, natural disasters, more politics. However, amid all the turmoil in the world, I want you to know that the arts are thriving! At Bay Street, it is very clear that the experience of live theater can be informative and life changing. This jewel of a theater on the East End of Long Island has been working tirelessly to create thoughtful productions for 27 years. I am pleased to report that 2018 was the most successful season ever. And the best received shows didn’t have bold face names in leading roles, just amazing talent combined with a creative use of an intimate space. I had the pleasure of being part of Bay Street Theater’s summer Gala and I can attest that they are a powerhouse with a unique perspective.

The Mainstage season began with the World Premiere of Fellow Travelers, written by Jack Canfora followed by Frost/ Nixon written by Peter Morgan and the summer ended with a rousing revival of Evita, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s paean to Eva Peron. There was a prevailing thread that connected the three Mainstage productions this year. Each touched on power, politics and survival reflecting the current zeitgeist. The reviews were universally excellent.

Michael Riedel, of the New York Post wrote:
(referring to Bay Street’s production of Fellow Travelers) …”a compelling new play that, if it could get a Broadway theater, would be a strong contender to win the Tony next year.”

David Richardson, of NPR on Evita said:
“…it opened the other night with more or less an unknown cast and it was marvelous…the producers should think about moving it to an off-Broadway house or even a Broadway theater where it could run for a long time.”

Bay Street has been home for countless artists over the years and I am honored to count myself as a  member of the Bay Street family. For the past 27 years Bay Street has been creating magic on the stage, fulfilling its mission to innovate, educate, entertain and inspire a diverse community.

The support that Bay Street has given to artists like me would not have been possible without the generosity and support of patrons like YOU. Bay Street is a nonprofit theater, and ticket sales account for 50% of operating costs. We must raise an additional $220,000 by December 31 in order to ensure that we can continue to provide the very best theater and year round entertainment for our community. But we can’t do it without your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible today.

Your partnership is what makes Bay Street so special, and we are hugely appreciative for your unwavering support of our art and for the opportunities it provides for audiences and artists alike.
