 “Epic Abstraction: Pollock to Herrera”

at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Beginning in the 1940s and extending into the twenty-first century, the exhibition, which opened on December 17, features more than fifty works from The Met’s collection–including four major paintings by Pollock and a selection of his drawings–as well as loans, promised gifts, and new acquisitions.
Iconic works from the permanent collection are shown in conversation with works by international artists, such as the Japanese Gutai painter Kazuo Shiraga and the Hungarian artist Ilona Keserü. The exhibition is punctuated with special loans of major works by Helen Frankenthaler, Carmen Herrera, Joan Snyder and Cy Twombly.
