Sag Harbor Whaling Museum to Dedicate Marker to Mrs. Sage, October 28, 11 AM

Historical Marker

Honoring Mrs. Olivia Slocum Sage

Dedication, October 28

The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum is pleased to invite you to the official unveiling of our newly installed Historical Marker honoring Mrs. Olivia Slocum Sage.

Known locally as “Lady Bountiful,” Mrs. Sage’s beneficence was directly responsible for a number of major projects that shaped our village at the beginning of the 20thcentury, including the railroad station, John Jermain Library, Pierson High School and Mashashimuet Park.

Mrs. Sage was also a figure of national importance, being one of the most influential philanthropists of her day and an active participant in the early struggle for women’s rights.  It is in honor of these activities that the Pomeroy Foundation has graciously funded our new plaque, as part of the national celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Woman’s Suffrage Movement.

The dedication will be held at the Museum on October 28, 2017 at 11:00am.

Please join us as we dedicate this marker and honor one of the most remarkable women of the 20th century.
