SOUTHAMPTON, NEW YORK (June 28, 2018) — Southampton Arts Center today announced its full lineup of summer programming, from June 28 through September 16. Going into their 6th season, this summer will be the most robust so far with over 80 unique programs and exhibitions, plus the return of the popular SummerFest Food and Wine Benefit event to close out the Hamptons’ summer fundraisers.

“We are really hitting our stride now heading into our 6th summer season,” said Amy Kirwin, Southampton Arts Center Artistic Director. “In addition to bringing back some of our favorites, we are so thrilled to work with several new partners including the 92nd Street Y, Never Stop Learning, Kristin Sudeikis, Eddie Stern, and more. From the free outdoor Spielberg films, to Peter Marino’s Counterpoint, to our live performances on Lawn, Summer 2018 promises to delight.”

Southampton Art Center has also just launched their new Southampton Arts Center “Friends Circle” membership program, offering free admission to exhibitions and discounted rates on many programs.

“I’m extremely excited for my first summer at SAC,” said Tom Dunn, Southampton Arts Center Executive Director. “And I’m delighted to announce the launch of our new Friends Circle. We’ve counted on so many friends and supporters of SAC over the years to help establish this vital community and cultural center. We’re pleased to introduce this membership program as part of Summer 2018.”

The current exhibition, LIGHT ON SHADOW by Shawn Heinrichs, continues through July 16 and shortly thereafter will be the opening of the most anticipated show of the season,COUNTERPOINT: Selections from the Peter Marino Collection, which will include works from Georg Baselitz, Robert Mapplethorpe, Anselm Kiefer, Tom Sachs, Damien Hirst, Joel Morrison, and Andy Warhol, among others. COUNTERPOINT will open with a public celebration on Friday, July 27 from 6-8 PM. In conjunction with the exhibition, a special screening of the opera Orfeo et Euridice, which was recorded live from the Manhattan living room of Peter Marino, will take place on Monday, August 20 at 6 PM.

The popular free outdoor film series with Hamptons International Film Festival continues this summer and will be dedicated to master of filmmaking, Steven Spielberg. SUMMER OF SPIELBERG will run every Friday night at 8:30 PM from July 6 through August 31, ending as always with the annual screening of JAWS. Additional film programming will take place indoors on Sundays and Mondays featuring thought-provoking documentaries, foreign language films, and limited release features.

New and exciting free live performances will take place out the outdoor summer stage starting with Reggae favorite Winston Irie on Saturday, June 30 from 7-9 PM. Each subsequent month will feature a different style of music from bluegrass to world music, folk, and New Orleans jazz. The very first live dance performance will commence on Saturday, August 25 at 8:30 PM with The Dance Cartel, led by Ani Taj. Their dynamic production WET CLUTCH recalls the days of the drive-in movie. Cars will surround a group of dancers performing along with iconic female imagery from the last four decades of Hollywood cult film, and the show will be followed by a dance party with DJ Average Jo, getting the whole audience on their feet.

Free kids programming returns every Thursday at 4:30 PM with new puppet shows presented with Goat on a Boat in July. Baby Loves Disco will take the stage again for an afternoon dance party, and freestyle master Baba Israel brings his six-piece band Soul Inscribed, who will brew up a mix of hip-hop poetics and soulful vocals, propelled by a sonic blend of jazz, funk, and reggae instrumentals. They will also be joined by dancer Ken Fury, who has won over thirty of the top dance competitions and has had the honor of judging some of the largest dance events worldwide. These lively programs will be accompanied by art workshops, stories with Rogers Memorial Library, and lessons on nature and wildlife with Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program and Quogue Wildlife Refuge. Theater and filmmaking camps for kids ages 8 to 18 will also take place the first two weeks in August.

A diverse lineup of talks will be presented on Mondays and Thursdays with New York Academy of Art’s President David Kratz in conversation with Alyssa Monks, Eileen Guggenheim, Eric Fischl, and Brooke Shields, International Center of Photography talks with Mark Lubell & Elliott Erwitt, Joel Sartore, and Carol Guzy, and Never Stop Learning (NSL). NSL Book Club, a new program at SAC, encourages guests to read the books selected to then be discussed with the authors in the latter part of the summer. Books include Chris Pavone’s The Expats, Mary Louise Parker’s Dear Mr. You, Ali Wentworth’s Go Ask Ali, and Cristina Alger’s The Banker’s Wife.

The Studio @SAC will be bustling with classes for all ages, including an exclusive intensive with figurative painter Alyssa Monks and new program partner, 92nd Street Y, bringing Suminigashi (Japanese Paper Marbling with Ink) and Plein Air Painting in Watercolors. Mind and body will also be attended to with a variety of offerings, from immersive sound meditation in the galleries with Daniel Lauter to high-impact workouts with Studio B East by Bandier, including the return of Amanda Kloots and new Studio B favorites Megan Roup, Akin Akman, Mike Maloney, Lauren Duhamel, and Mantas Zvinas, plus a new dance-based workout with Kristin Sudeikis – “Dance Party” and “Dance Break”. And a very special Ashtanga yoga session will take place with world-renowned Yogi Eddie Stern, followed by an intimate talk.

These special programs and so much more will be available for all to enjoy this summer season. Visit southamptonartscenter.org for more information and program updates.
