Enjoy a holiday party from the 1940s with festive foods, cocktails and music from the Big Band Era. Swing dancing lessons and performances by Anita Boyer & O.F.V.S. Dancers (Our Fabulous Variety Show). Feel free to DRESS for the forties as we celebrate the pleasures of the holiday season at the Captain Albert Rogers Mansion at Hearthside Swing Time Party. The Greek Revival Mansion will be decorated with garlands of fresh winter greens and filled with bountiful hors d’oeuvres, sumptuous sweets, and a bar.

MRS. CLAUS DOES ALL THE WORK

As the holiday season approaches everyone knows that Santa Claus and his elves are busy preparing for the holidays, but no one thinks about all the work Mrs. Claus has to do. Join Mrs. Claus on one of her days off at the Rogers Mansion. From 1:00 to 3:00 PM Mrs. Claus will be serving cookies and cider and doing some of her favorite holiday crafts, in the Music Room. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE

SAG HARBOR WHALING FLEET

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 11:00 AM
Rogers Mansion, 17 Meeting House Lane
Free Admission, Co-sponsored by the Rogers Memorial Library
Richard Doctorow, Collections Manager and Curator of the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum, will give a brief history of the whaling fleet of Sag Harbor, which was the largest whaling port in the state of New York and the tenth largest in the country. Doctorow will discuss the fleet’s “pre-history” foundations in the early Southampton drift-whale and shore-whaling trades, the advent of long range voyages beginning in the 1780s, and the fleet’s rise and fall until its demise in 1874. Co-sponsored by the Southampton Historical Museum, Rogers Memorial Library and the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum.

KATHLEEN KING’S

COOKIE EXCHANGE

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 4:00 – 5:00 PM
Rogers Mansion, 17 Meeting House Lane
$15 for members, $20 for non-members 
Take a break from the holiday rush and join old and new friends at the Museum’s annual Cookie Exchange. Swap dozens of festively decorated, homemade cookies from scratch – no mixes. Please bring 2 to 3 dozen cookies for swapping. Kathleen King, former owner of Tate’s Bake Shop, will give a short talk on her love of cookies and how they have influenced her life. Bring copies of your recipes, a tray to display your cookies and a container to take swapped cookies home. Refreshments will be served. Space is limited. $15 per person. ROGERS MANSION BY CANDLELIGHT

 
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30, 4:00 – 5:30 PM 
Rogers Memorial Library, 91 Coopers Farm Road
$10 for adults, free for members and children 17 & under 
 
Celebrate the holidays with a candlelight reception at the Rogers Mansion. The parlors and sitting rooms will be festooned with garlands of fresh winter greens and flowers. Colorful antique holiday decorations can be seen on the many trees that decorate the reception rooms in the Mansion.
