Southold Historical Society Dedicates Reichert Family Barn

November 4, 2018, Noon

It is with great pleasure that the Southold Historical Society announces that on November 4, 2018 at 12 noon there will be a dedication of the Reichert Family Barn. Community members are invited to attend as we acknowledge the wonderful generosity of Charles and Helen Reichert and celebrate the historic nature of this beautiful 1700s barn.

The Society is always considering best uses of their historic buildings. In late September, the property at 54127 Main Road sold. Efforts have been underway to improve and revitalize its historical campus with over a dozen buildings, the Prince Building and the Nautical Museum at Horton Point Lighthouse. The barn, known formerly as the Pine Neck Barn, has seen increasing use for events and programs.

Society director, Deanna Witte-Walker states, “We are thrilled that the Reichert Family’s support of the Southold Historical Society will once again be honored through the dedication of this fantastic barn.” Many have visited Santa in the barn during the annual Candlelight Tour. This year, Santa will happily greet children in the Reichert Family Barn.

Dating to the 1700’s, the Barn was moved to the Society’s property in the 1960’s – like many of the buildings located on the museum complex. It was donated to the Society by the Breitstadt family who inherited a farm in the Pine Neck area of Southold. The magnificent hand-hewn beams are the backdrop for the Society’s collection of sleighs, carriages, and other transportation related collections. The barn underwent extensive renovations and restoration in 2007

The Reichert Family Barn dedication will take place on Sunday, November 4 at 12pm. After a dedication ceremony, attendees are invited to explore the barn. There will be light refreshments.

The barn is located in the center of the museum complex which is located at 55200 Main Rd. Southold.
