East Hampton Historical Society

The Board of Trustees of the East Hampton Historical Society seeks a qualified and experienced Executive Director to oversee and manage its six museum sites, its 10,000+ piece collection of historical artifacts and to administer the staff of 3 full-time, 2 part-time, and 3 office volunteers. The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Society’s facilities, as well as organizing fundraising, educational and member events. The position reports directly to the Board of Trustees. Located in East Hampton, New York, and founded in 1921, the East Hampton Historical Society’s mission is to serve the residents and visitors of East Hampton by collecting, preserving, presenting and interpreting the material, cultural and economic heritage of the town and its environs.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in history, public history, museum studies, nonprofit administration/management, or equivalent degree program. Sensitivity to history is preferred.


  • Experience in museum or nonprofit work for a minimum of 2 years as director.


  • Demonstrated ability in overseeing P&L responsibility for an organization


  • Exceptional communication/presentation skills
