Book Signing and Cocktail Party: Sag Harbor photographer, Jonathan Morse will be signing his new catalogue “Face To Face” Sunday, May 28th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Sylvester & Co, located at 103 Main Street in Sag Harbor. Much of the proceeds of the sales of his book will go to benefit the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum! An exhibit of his work from Face to Face, curated by Peter J. Marcelle, will be held at the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum (200 Main St) June 16th thru July 12th, 10am to 5pm. The Museum will also host a ‘Meet The Artists’ reception July 1 at 6pm till 8pm.

The Exhibit “Face to Face” curated by Peter J. Marcelle, is a collection of black and white portraits of artists and writers from the East End by Sag Harbor photographer, Jonathan Morse.

The impetus for the series came from a portrait that Morse did of his old friend and fellow photographer, Paul Ickovic. The picture, included in this show, was well received, and Ickovic, in his own inimitable manner, insisted that Morse immediately cease work on his series of Landscapes, (Eye on the East End), Nudes, (Odalisque) and Seagulls, (Sag Harbor Long Wharf Luncheon and Flying Club), and concentrate entirely on a series that would celebrate the idea that one who has lived a long life of the mind, develops a depth of character that is revealed in their faces.

At the completion of the project, it became clear that more than simply presenting some interesting faces, the series chronicled an important era in the long and inseparable connection between artists and the East End.

The show will consist of some 35 portraits from a collection of 75, most of which will be illustrated in a limited edition catalog which will be available at the Museum and local bookstores.
