A Celebration of Works

oils – monoprints – collages
JUNE 15 – 26
Reception – June 17th 5 – 7:30
Huey Waltzer was born to Austrian parents in 1930. Having grown up in Far Rockaway, he was largely known as a fashion designer throughout the 1970’s well into the ’90’s. His designs have shown in the windows of Lord & Taylor, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue. His most popular line was his label “En Francais by Huey Waltzer” with showrooms in New York, Montreal, Toronto, London, and Paris. It was a success amongst everyone from merchandisers, window display artists, and most of all the women who wore his dresses. After traveling the world over, he eventually landed in Greenport having spent the later part of his years in a cottage at Peconic Landing.
This show, posthumously presented, is a small retrospective of relatively unseen abstract work, having shown most notably in Mexico and published in Time magazine’s Latin American edition in the mid 1980’s. His prints and monotypes are a far cry from his dress designs. In some they are whimsical and delightful in his use of color, and in others they are surprisingly moody, dark, and unrestrained.
We hope that you can join us for the reception celebrating his life and work  on Saturday June 17th, from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.
