Unveil New Website

On Monday, March 30, the International Center of Photography (ICP) launched its latest website (www.icp.org), created in collaboration with award-winning experience design company North Kingdom.

Executive Director Mark Lubell says, “We were excited by North Kingdom’s approach and its expansive view of our site’s potential. We knew its team could bring ICP to new audiences and create a vibrant platform for us to share our work, our cultural assets, and our points of view.” North Kingdom is known for its work with Google and Adidas, among others.

Alfredo Aponte, User Experience Director at North Kingdom, explains: “From early on, we knew that ICP’s future site would be best organized around human needs rather than organizational structure. It was the only way to successfully create a meaningful experience that inspires all to explore.”

The new, responsive site was designed and developed to be a forum for engagement and a showcase for images. It brings all parts of ICP—the Museum, School, Collections, Store, and Library— together. The site functions like a railway system, with Related Items on every page, leading visitors in new directions—a book in the Store may be related to an image, which then leads to an article about a specific artist.

The robust Search function lets users find exactly what they want, quickly, while the new Browse section encourages exploration. Browse brings together more than 58,000 items from ICP’s institutional archives and its Collections, with more being added regularly. Users can choose to look at work by a single artist or filter the items by their unique interests. ICP is making its Collections more accessible to online audiences at its website as well as to visitors at its expansive new Collections facility at Mana Contemporary, slated to open to the public later this year.

Browse is also home to a new editorial section, ICP Perspectives, where ICP curators, faculty, alumni, students, and community members will engage in a dialogue about photography and the role and relevance of images in contemporary society. The ICP School sections also have new features, including faculty and alumni profiles, with additional updates planned.

This week’s launch is the first phase of an ongoing partnership between ICP and North Kingdom. Additional enhancements to the website, including new eCommerce, membership, and class registration features, will be unveiled throughout the year. And new content—from work in our Collections to Perspectives from our community—will be added each week.
