Diet for a Small Planet by Frances Moore Lappé
Reading & Discussion Group: Monday, April 23 at 2pm
Become part of the food-centric conversation inspired by author Frances Moore Lappé. Discuss the author’s philosophy on how you can change yourself and the world around you by changing the way you eat. Discover simple rules for a healthy diet!
This reading and discussion series is funded by Humanities New York, and participants are welcomed to attend any or all of the upcoming book discussions. Books are available at SHS office or at Peconic Landing. See below for information on the entire series!

The Serious Side of Food: Past, Present and Future

Wanted: All Foodies on the North Fork—
growers, preparers and just good ole lovers of food!
Come together with other foodies to share your ideas and experiences in a book discussion program funded by Humanities New York. Participants will have the opportunity to read a series of four books that tell the story of our fascination with food and are welcomed to any and all of the book discussions. 
The remaining discussion dates and titles are as followed:
April 23 — Diet for a Small Planet by Frances Moore Lappé 2pm

May 14 —  Cod by Mark Kurlansky 2pm
Southold Historical Society Museum Complex (Thomas Moore House)

The discussions will be led by Karen Lund Rooney, Southold Historical Society Executive Director. Copies of the books are available for loan at the Society office which is open Mon-Fri 10am-2pmand is located at 54325 Main Road, Southold 11971.

Explore our Local History

As a member organization of ASCHS we would like to invite SHS members to join us at the upcoming quarterly meeting hosted by the Bayport-Blue Point Historical Society and Sayville Historical Society. The Historical Society has arranged tours of the following historic sites:
8:30 – 9:00
Registration and light refreshments at Edwards Farm.
9:00 – 10:30
Visit the late 1700’s home of the first European-American settlers in Sayville.
10:30 – 11:30
St. Ann’s Church, 275 Middle Road, Sayville
Tour the breathtaking first stone house of worship built in Suffolk County.
11:30 – 1:00
Take in the beauty of pre 19th century South Shore summerhouse architecture.
1:00 – 4:00
Grey Horse Tavern, 291 Bayport Avenue, Bayport
Luncheon Buffet – $40 per person.

Treasure Exchange is now open for its regular hours!!!
The hours are 10am-4pm TuesdaySaturday. Consignments are accepted on Tuesdays from 10am-2pm.
