THE SUFFOLK THEATER, 1933

118 East Main Street, Riverhead

The 600-seat Suffolk Theater is a national landmark, a unique Art Deco movie theater, designed by R. Thomas Short of the New York firm, Harde and Short. Mr. Short’s legacy included eleven movie theaters on Long Island.  The Suffolk Theater is the last remaining movie house designed by R. Thomas Short. It is also the last remaining large art deco theater on Long Island. Suffolk Theater was built as a National Recovery Act project for the Century circuit chain.
